You Can Only Fix So Much
In all the show lamb forum groups and in talking to people, they will always ask about fixing certain areas of their lamb/goat. While there are certain aspects to a show lamb that can be fixed with feed, exercise or supplements, there are also some that can’t be fixed at all. Don’t let this discourage you, but make sure you are making wise decisions in the amount of time and money to spend on fixing issues. There is always going to be a supplement that advertises that it can fix your issue, but few actually work to the degree that is advertised. When there is an issue that you can’t fix, it is more important to learn how to show a lamb to the best of its features and hide its flaws if possible with the way you prepare it for the show or set it up. One thing to note is that you can’t hide all of the flaws, but you can make them less noticeable.
Some things that feed can’t change include:
- Bone Size
- Width
- Spring of Rib behind the Shoulder
- Structure
- Neck Set
- Length of body
- The way an animal walks
- Hip Set/Shape
- Topline Shape/Structure
